We're doing something new this year!
Everyone loves a Black Friday sale. And with good reason! It's impossible to resist the chance to get through your holiday gift list and maybe get a few things you've been coveting (A new surfboard? A 4K TV?? That varsity jacket I've been eyeing for 3 years???).
Sales have become a part of the holiday spirit, and we wait months to take advantage of them, but what is often forgotten is the impact these sales (and our consumption during them) have on our planet. Extra packaging, large items, and rush shipping all contribute to raise our carbon footprint during these last few months of the year. While we know there is an expectation for brands to run sales this time of year, we wanted to make ours about you and the planet.
So this year we're excited to announce we're partnering with One Tree Planted. For each order placed during our holiday sales, we're planting a tree to help carbon sequestration and reforestation efforts around the world.
Here is a little more about One Tree Planted and the great work they're doing:
One Tree Planted is a 501C3 non-profit environmental charity with a focus on global reforestation. We work with amazing partners in North America, South America, Asia, and Africa to get trees in the ground and restore forests after fires and floods, create jobs, build communities, and protect habitats for biodiversity.
Our reforestation projects rebuild forests after natural disasters and deforestation. This doesn't just benefit nature and the climate, it directly impacts the people living in the affected areas.
Planting trees remains one of the best ways to reduce global carbon emissions. The average mature tree is capable of sequestering 48 lbs of carbon each year. As global deforestation continues, our reforestation projects are planting trees that will clean the air we breathe for years to come.
Last year, One Tree Planted planted over 4 million trees, that once mature, will be able to sequester over 192 million pounds of CO2 per year. This is a huge impact, and while we have a long way to go in the battle on carbon emissions, we are proud to be supporting them.
